Overview of Range Class Topics

The range class covers the following key areas:

  1. Safety – Safety is our top priority and the first topic addressed in any class session. We emphasize the importance of always keeping your weapon pointed downrange and ensuring your finger remains off the trigger until you’re prepared to shoot. Once you have a firm grasp of these fundamentals, we’ll move on to the mechanics of firing a gun.

  2. Stance – A proper stance is essential for effective shooting. We teach two primary stances: the Weaver stance and the Isosceles stance. Together, we’ll find the stance that best suits you.

  3. Grip – A solid grip is crucial for accuracy. You need to hold the firearm firmly without being limp-wristed, and understand the appropriate pressure to apply and finger placement. For right-handed shooters, the left hand plays a significant role in gripping, while for left-handed shooters, most of the grip work is done by the right hand. Our instructors are skilled in teaching both left- and right-hand techniques.

  4. Trigger Control – Proper trigger control is vital. We will show you how to pull the trigger directly back without lateral movement. Many newcomers tend to place too much of their finger on the trigger; by the time the trigger is fully engaged, their finger has often curved at the first joint. We emphasize a gradual pull while maintaining sight alignment.

  5. Breath Control – Controlling your breath is key to accurate shooting. We’ll teach you the correct breathing techniques to apply as you prepare for and take your shot.

  6. Sight Alignment / Sight Picture – Ideally, we’d all shoot with both eyes open, but that may not be feasible for everyone. We will help you determine your dominant eye, which is essential for effectively aligning the front sight and achieving an accurate sight picture. This skill will enhance your accuracy and tighten your shot groups on the target.

  7. Follow Through – We will also cover how to manage recoil effectively to improve your follow-through, enabling you to take faster subsequent shots.

  8. Loading and Unloading Firearms – Finally, we will teach you the proper procedures for safely loading and unloading firearms.

  9. Cost: Four-hour course: $100. This fee does not include weapons or ammunition. For pricing on weapons and rounds, please call us.
